Dog Friendly Race Invites you to move your “paws” to Save Homeless Pets and Fight Pet Obesity

Over the last 5 years, veterinarians Jen and Paul Sikoski organized a unique event, which raised over $23,000 to benefit Brevard County Animal Shelters. The 6th annual Bayfront 5"K-9" Fun Run and Walk will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at 8:00 am. This year we are extending donations from the event to the county shelters as well as two local rescue groups, Sparticus Legacy Dog Rescue and Buddy Rescue.

It will be an exciting opportunity for people to get out with their beloved pets, get some exercise, and raise money for the homeless pets of our community. Solo runners, runners with dogs, and walkers will all be welcome for some friendly competition or just a day to get out and play. Special awards will be given to the top 3 dogs in 3 weight classes (small, medium, large).

There will be a post-race gathering in the parking lot of Palm Bay Animal Clinic, providing an excellent opportunity for marketing and networking. We will continue to offer t-shirts and optional lure chasing event for dogs!

“Like” Bayfront 5K9 on facebook and register online through http://www.runningzone.com/events/bayfront-5k9/ .

Event Description: K-9 Friendly 5K Run/Walk at the Palm Bay Animal Clinic. Net Proceeds benefit Brevard County Animal Shelter. Special awards for the Top 3 Dogs!
To Benefit:

Brevard County Sheriff's
Department Animal Services

We are excited to continue to partner with the Brevard County Animal Shelters, now under the leadership of the Brevard County Sheriff's Department. Proceeds of over $23,000 from 2010 - 2014 Bayfront 5k9 events replaced old cage gates on the dog runs at both shelters with new and safer cage gates, created a puppy meeting room and installed a "Find-Me" Kiosk to search for missing or adoptable animals at SACC, and provided medical aide such as heartworm disease treatment, antibiotics, and vaccines to improve the health of animals in the North and South Animal Care Centers and help find them "forever" homes.

Sparticus Legacy Dog Rescue

Sparticus Legacy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity located in Brevard County. We are an all-volunteer, Foster home based, No-Kill Rescue group focused on finding homes for orphaned and abandoned dogs. Most of the animals in our care come to us neglected, with broken bones and broken spirits, some have been starved, some beaten, while others have just been dumped at the shelter. They require medical treatment, special diets and most of all the love our foster homes are able to provide. All of this while searching for an appropriate "forever home".

Buddy Rescue

Buddy Rescue is a non-profit organization located within Brevard County dedicated to rescuing small dogs, primarily Dachshunds, from local county shelters and owners who can no longer care for them. By working with committed volunteers, foster homes, and local veterinarians, we are able to rescue hundreds of dogs. We provide each dog with loving temporary care, and provide appropriate veterinary care needed. We then find each dog a well-matched, carefully screened forever home. We also serve as a resource to our community and all dog owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training, and good nutrition.
